CHAROLLAIS - Wooled Composites

In the years around 2000 we began breeding Coolalee sheep. Since 2013 we have infused the Charollais sheep breed. This composition is hitting all of the attributes that we have have set down for a terminal / maternal breed. This breed is fibre safe and presents no risk of contamination to Merino type wools.

The Coolalee was developed in the 1980’s in NSW using 6 different types of British breed sheep. The biggest attraction for me was the easy lambing attribute and Coolalee sires were used confidently over ewe lambs and maiden ewes without any lambing issues. As a stabilized breed they were designed to produce later maturing lambs that could be taken to heavy slaughter weights without running to fat. As we worked with the breed it was apparent that lamb producers wanted earlier maturing lambs and so we used some white Suffolk and White Dorper for early growth and extra muscling .

From 2014 I have used the Charollais (sheep) breed in the composition.

I am very impressed with the muscling and fast growth of lambs .

The Charollais already had a great reputation as producing small birth weight lambs and this has only enhanced that attribute that the K.D. Wooled Composites have had since I started using them.

The Charollais sired lambs carry a downs type wool with minimal head and leg wool.

The K.D. Wooled Composite breed is a non seasonal breeder and I consistently wean lambs at 150% + reaching to 195% last spring with a high twinning rate and minimal litters of lambs(3 or more). Theres no reason why they cant be used as a maternal breed.

WHY USE A KD COMPOSITE?

•    fast growing lambs
•    no lambing issues
•    virile long lasting rams
•    mate at 1% + 1
•    clean points-less seed/crutching
•    high yielding carcasses
•    good feed utilisation
•    high fertility

 Measurements and lambing

The composites are also fully recorded and their raw data is available to help you assess what the resulting progeny are likely to produce.
We were unable to establish an ASBV for easy lambing years ago because we have no lambing problems with the breed. Work that out!
We guarantee the Composites for nil lambing problems under recommended nutrition levels for pre lambing ewes.
They are used widely over ewe lambs and maiden ewes.
