We assisted no ewes lambing, they were BL/M maiden ewes,we marked 150% lambs, lambs are chunky and solid. We had to assisted some older ewes that were mated to 2 other common breeds.
Beltana Station has been using K.D. Shedding Composite Rams for the past few years and we find they adapt well to our country in the Flinders Ranges and suit our ewe type.We find the rams to be of good nature, large framed which is what we chase, good shedders with good feet and shoulders.
- Laura & Graham
THE K.D DOHNE RAMS THEY BOUGHT 3-5 YEARS AGO ARE STILL GOING STRONG AND THEIR STRUCTURE HAS HELD UP WELL COMPARED TO SOME OTHER DOHNE RAMS.
- WE ARE ACHIEVING A MINIMUM OF 10% EXTRA LAMBS FROM EWES
MATED TO DOHNES,EVEN OUT OF TRADITIONAL MERINO EWES BECAUSE OF MODERATE BIRTH SIZE AND SURVIVABILITY OF LAMBS
-CLINTS ARE USING DOHNE RAMS OVER STRONG WOOL X BRED EWES
TO REDUCE MICRON FROM 28+ DOWN TO 24 MICRON RESULTING IN AN EXTRA $18 /HEAD WOOL CUT(FEB 2012 PRICES).THEY ARE ALSO MAINTAINING LAMBING % AND CARCASE TRAITS THAT THEY WOULD NORMALLY GET WITH 1ST X EWES.
Composite Ram Clients
- WE HAVE MARKED 670 LAMBS FROM 450 EWES .WE HAD LESS THAN 20 DEAD LAMBS FROM THAT LAMBING THAT WE FOUND.
- K.D. RAMS ARE VERY HARDY AND PERSISTANT WORKERS AND VERY FEW EWES ESCAPE THE RAMS DESIRE TO MATE.WE USED A DIFFERENT BREED AS A BACKUP AFTER 3 WEEKS TO DO A COMPARISON AND FOUND
THAT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH EWES LEFT UNMATED TO COMPARE.
- WE INCUR NO LAMBING ISSUES WITH K.D. RAMS even when using over ewe lambs that are having their first lamb at 12 months old.We confidently lamb the maiden ewes at a block 20 km away and only go out to check them twice a week while lambing.NO MORE PULLED HAMMIES OR DEAD LAMMIES.
